National Threat Level

The threat to the UK (England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland) from terrorism is substantial. Substantial = an attack is likely.  Do you know what terror threats are likely in your local area?

Eid Ul Adha

Eid Ul Adha falls on 28 June in 2023.

UlAdha is celebrated on the 10th day of DhūalHijjah, the twelfth and final month of the Islamic calendar. Traditionally lasting for four days, the first day of Eid ulAdha marks the end of the yearly Hajj pilgrimage to Makkah.

Muslims use a lunar calendar which differs in length from the Gregorian calendar used worldwide. This means the Gregorian date of Muslim holidays shifts slightly from one year to the next, falling about 11 days earlier each year.

Activity 1

Please spend a few minutes researching Eid Ul Adha and identify what the typical customs and practices are for Muslims on this day what are the typical activities done on this day?

As with all monthly tasks, please prepare for a short discussion with your Coach/Tutor.

    Activity 2

Spend a short amount of time identifying what some of these prohibitions are that Jewish people are expected to adhere to.

Identify how many Jewish people there are in the UK, research how many Muslims there are, and see if you can calculate what percentage they are (individually) of the whole of the UK population.

    British Values – Individual Liberty

This month we are focusing on ‘Individual Liberty”.

Spend some time thinking about where you live in the UK and how your liberty is different to those living in other parts of the world.

    Activity 3

Try and identify places where there is less/more liberty than where you live now and try to understand what is different and why it is different. Why do some countries allow lesser freedoms than others, what’s their history, how long has this been the case?

The idea of the task is to simply raise awareness of the liberties we have and how these differ across the planet.
