World Suicide Prevention Day: 10 September

For September we are focusing on suicide prevention.

In 2019, a total of 5691 suicides were registered in England and Wales, equating to 11 deaths per 100,000. Close to three quarters of registered deaths in 2019 were among men (4,303 deaths), which follows a consistent trend back to the mid 1990s.

Males aged from 45 to 49 years had the highest age specific suicide rate at 25.5 deaths per 100,000. For females, the age group with the highest rate was 50 to 54 years at 7.4 deaths per 100,000.

Suicide is preventable, it isn’t inevitable.
